Miles that Matter: Run Helps Families Rebuild Homes

This year marked the 16th edition of Run to Rebuild, and M+K was proud once again to support the event and its long-standing partnership with Rebuilding Together Philadelphia.

A Day on the Trail

The day brought together runners, walkers, families, and volunteers along the scenic Forbidden Drive trail in Wissahickon Creek. Participants took part in either the 5K run or the 2-mile walk, with additional activities on site including kids’ events and community programming that helped make it a true family-friendly day.

Miles that Matter

M+K’s sponsorship supported the year-round residential rehabilitation work led by Rebuilding Together Philadelphia—including Block Builds that many from our team have participated in over the years. These efforts continue to improve safety and livability for homeowners across the city.

The impact model behind RTP is especially meaningful: through their network of volunteers and suppliers, every $100 donated helps generate approximately $300 worth of home repairs for families in need.

About the Event

Run to Rebuild was originally founded in 2008 by Jamie Friling to raise awareness and support for RTP’s mission. Sixteen years later, it continues to serve as a strong community gathering point that blends activity, awareness, and direct impact.

For those who attended, volunteered, or supported from afar, thank you for helping make this year another success.

Elevated by Design: Avalon, NJ Residence wins SEAoP Award of Merit

We’re excited to announce that this private Avalon, NJ residence received an Award of Merit in the 2026 Excellence in Structural Engineering Awards from the Structural Engineers Association of Pennsylvania (SEAoP, formerly DVASE).

We partnered with Asher Slaunwhite + Partners and JG Popper Custom Builders on this 7,400 sq. ft., four-story home in Avalon’s High Dunes, where elevated siting and expansive views demanded innovative multi-level cantilevered structural solutions. The result is both Avalon’s most expensive home ever listed and a clear example of how thoughtful engineering can support bold architectural vision in a challenging coastal environment.

About the Project
A fully glazed rear façade, including corner windows, required extensive steel-framed cantilevers to maintain openness without compromising performance. Overhanging shade structures with faux timber rafter tails serve both functional and aesthetic roles, engineered for long spans with precision.

Board-formed concrete walls act as both primary structure and architectural expression, anchoring the home against dune and wind forces while reinforcing its clean geometry. Exposed interior steel further highlights the integration of engineering and design.

Built into steep dunes, the residence relies on complex retaining systems and pile foundations to stabilize the site, allowing it to rise seamlessly from the landscape. Every element—from cantilevered decks to elevated terraces—reflects a balance of structural rigor and architectural ambition.

The result is a landmark residence that demonstrates how precise engineering enables bold design, expansive spaces, and uninterrupted coastal views.
